How the Travelling Motor Works

In a standard garage door opener, the chain or belt runs the full length of the rail and the motor sits at the ceiling-mounted head unit. The drive element moves past a fixed point.

In Sommer’s system, the motor unit itself travels along the rail as the door opens and closes. This eliminates the chain or belt as a noise source and reduces mechanical friction throughout the system. The result is a quieter, longer-lasting opener with fewer wear points — and a completely maintenance-free sealed unit that requires no periodic lubrication.

evo+ — The Standard Residential Model

The evo+ comes in three motor sizes: 2060 (600N / 600 lb door weight), 2080 (800N / 1,100 lb), and 2110 (1,100N / 1,500 lb). All three share the same intelligent control unit — the system reads required operating force fully automatically, continuously adapts to external conditions (summer/winter operation), and monitors closing forces in accordance with EN 12453 electronic motor monitoring. Optimized speed profiles provide fast opening and safe closing. UL tested and certified. Wi-Fi ready via SOMweb gateway. Battery backup standard.

pro+ — Flexible Installation

The pro+ offers the same direct-drive performance as the evo+ with a key design difference: the control unit is separate from the drive unit and can be mounted on a wall, ceiling, or at the rear — using an existing outlet without additional electrical work. Three installation variants (front, rear, ceiling) make the pro+ better suited for garages where the standard head-unit position isn’t ideal. Handles doors up to 26 feet wide.

GIGAline — Commercial and Collective Garages

The GIGAline is Sommer’s industrial-grade operator — not a residential opener. It uses an industrial door motor with a frequency converter and a tear-resistant steel roller chain rather than the belt-free direct-drive system of the evo+ and pro+ lines. Rated for doors up to 26 feet wide and 11.5 feet tall, weights up to 1,100 lbs, and up to 100 parking spaces. IP54 protection class. Built for underground garages, collective parking structures, commercial facilities, and high-cycle residential applications with oversized or very heavy doors.
